The Maryland Coastal Bays Program has an outdoor enclosed exhibit space owned by the OC Life-Saving Station Museum at the south end of the Ocean City boardwalk. The exhibit sits beside the benches that face the iconic view of the inlet, Assateague, and Sinepuxent Bay. This multi-year exhibit will be visible year-round to both residents and visitors and provides opportunities to educate and tell stories about the estuary system that makes our home such a unique place to visit and live. Thanks to funding through the Harrison Group, a gold sponsor, Old Pro Golf and the Windrow Group, silver sponsors, and generous grants from Beach to Bay Heritage Area grant, and Chesapeake Bay Trust.
The exhibit currently features a 16-foot wrap-around mural of the bay’s habitats that, quite literally, paints a vibrant picture of the Coastal Bays estuary. The mural was completed by local artist Leslie Belloso. The community is also invited into the display through the use of 3D models of the marsh and the animals found in our bays’ waters, and interpretive signage to spark interest to visitors to learn more about the watershed they are currently a part of. Two of the signs include QR codes to help visitors continuing learning long after they leave the exhibit space. If you also want to check out those resources, click on the two blue buttons below that read “How Will You Explore?” and “You Can Make a Difference”. In the future, the exhibit will have that English and Spanish audio and more online resources such as an interactive mural tour of all the plants and animals.”
