After Schools
Through the support of Worcester County Public Schools and our amazing interns and volunteers, MCBP provides numerous after school program offerings at local schools. A thematic program is planned for the after school session that incorporates topics like environmental education, local ecosystems, pollination, sustainability, water quality, and much more. In recent years, MCBP has worked with Buckingham Elementary, Berlin Intermediate, Ocean City Elementary, and Snow Hill Elementary. Please email Liz Wist, lwist@mdcoastalbays.org for information on after school availability.
Youth Environmental Action Summit
Since 2019, MCBP has participated in and supported the Youth Environmental Action Summit (YEAS) by mentoring students on yearly environmental action projects. The Summit’s goal is to inspire and empower youth to explore pressing issues both locally and around the world. Finished action projects culminate in a powerful, fun, educational day at the Ward Museum that bring together students of all backgrounds and ages to share their experiences and proposals. MCBP has had the privilege to work alongside students from Berlin Intermediate in 2019 and Snow Hill Elementary in 2020. To learn more, and to get involved, please visit the Youth Environmental Action Summit.
Community Programs
If you are a local organization such as a library, community group, association, or a nonprofit looking for continued education for your members, please reach out to us. We consistently work to provide education about MCBP and our watershed to our local citizens through a multitude of avenues, and we would love to come share Coastal Bays’ knowledge with you. Please email Liz Wist at lwist@mdcoastalbays.org to discuss a presentation or experience with your group.
Green Schools
Through the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education, the Maryland Green Schools Program allows schools and their communities to concentrate on making positive efforts towards environmental sustainability. Participating schools work to empower their students to make changes through reducing environmental impacts, fostering environmental literacy, and encouraging sustainability. As a certified Green Center, MCBP works with Worcester County Schools through every step of their application process. IN the past, MCBP has supported schools through mini-grants, outdoor programs, after schools, application review, and committee representation. There are currently four public schools with their certification in Worcester County—Berlin Intermediate, Buckingham Elementary, Pocomoke Middle, and Snow Hill Middle—and MCBP is actively working with Stephen Decatur High School to receive their certification in 2021. For more information on the MD Green Schools Program, please visit the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
